The marked increase in incidence of children with severe allergies, coupled with the duty of care that teachers and child care workers have when working with allergic children has led to the development of Allergy Station.
Education on managing anaphylaxis and severe allergy for teachers and carers is essential and this campaign is well under way, with the introduction of minimum standards a reality in 2008. See attached document (legislation)
Allergy Station is a range of practical resources to be used in conjunction with specialist anaphylaxis training. For details regarding anaphylaxis training contact coordinator@allergyfacts.org.au
Allergy station aims to provide those caring for children with anaphylaxis, with a simple, recognizable station for storing medication and displaying vital information.
Epipens need to be used immediately in the event of an anaphylactic reaction to avoid fatality so there is no room for confusion or panic.
Allergy Station aims to reduce confusion and allows carers to locate medication and instruction as quickly as possible in an emergency.
Many institutions are dealing with a number of allergic children at the one time and to be able to go directly to the allergy station, without hesitation saves valuable time and could be the difference between life and death.
